For many of us, summer is a time to slow down, take a break from regular routines and regiments, travel and enjoy rest! This is an important part of the rhythm of life as God designed it, but as Christians, we know that God is with us in all ways all the time. We continue learning and growing as a body of Christ day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute. Fredericksburg UMC wants to keep you connected to your faith this summer! Whether you are here in town or traveling, we’ve come up with this list of suggestions to make it easy to stay connected. Enjoy, and know that we are happy and blessed that you’ve decided to make this place your home.
Stay Connected to your Home Church’s Programs This Summer:
Some of our seasonal programs take a break for the summer, but there are still lots of things going on in the summer months at Fredericksburg UMC! Here are some ways you can stay involved with all the mission and ministries of the church this summer:
Away from home:
-PRAYER! Keep your home church in your prayers as you travel this summer (and of course we will keep your safe adventures in ours!). You can pray specifically for the Belize Mission Trip (June 10th-16th), Vacation Bible School (July 10th-14th) and for the leaders of our church as they brainstorm new programs for the coming months.
Lord, we know that You are always working in us and through us. Keep the fire of Your will lit within us and bless the ministries of this church. We pray for safe travels over our missionaries and all those traveling this summer. We pray for our youth program and the lives they will bless as they work on mission projects this summer. We pray for our children’s ministry as they prepare for Vacation Bible School and reach out to children and families in our communities. We pray that through us, others would come to know Your love. Amen.
-Stay in the Know: We’ll keep you informed with email updates and of course the weekly Sunday Scoop. That’s the best way to keep up with all the things going on each week! If you don’t get the Scoop by email, contact Tricia at email@example.com. You can check out all of our publications on our Issuu Home Page right here. AND we have a brand new way to keep you informed. You can text FREDUMCHOME to 59769 to get text updates on your smartphone!
-Volunteer: There are still many ways to serve our over the summer! You can get involved with the youth group, volunteer to help with VBS, try out the choir for the summer and keep checking out the Scoop each week for other projects as they come up!
- Interested in youth ministry? Check out their summer calendar right here, contact Joel Griffin at firstname.lastname@example.org, or text BACKPORCH to 59769
- Our children’s ministry is revving up for Vacation Bible School July 10th-14th from 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. You can sign up right here, or contact Lisa Davis at email@example.com. Text TREEHOUSE to 59769 to subscribe to children’s ministry updates on your smartphone.
- Each summer many of our choir members travel, so we are always looking for “summer hummers” to fill out the choir loft. Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Contact our Director of Music Ministries at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more about the choir and our other music groups.
Stay Connected to your Home Church Financially This Summer:

Stay Connected to your Home Church Spiritually This Summer:
Taking time to relax and disconnect from routines and busyness over the summer is great! God’s Word tells us that rest is an important part of His design. But that doesn’t mean you have to disconnect spiritually! Here are some ways you can stay connected to your faith and Fredericksburg UMC this summer:
Away from home:
-PRAYER! Prayer is one of the most important things we do as Christians, and it is simply communing with God. Vacation is one of the best times to clear your mind from the to-dos of every day life and set aside some time to spend in prayer talking and listening to God.
Lord, we pray that you would draw us into You. Clear our minds from distractions, and help us to clearly hear Your voice. We know that we don’t always know how to pray, but that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us and you always hear us. Thank you, Heavenly Father. Amen.
Weekly Prayer Guide: Did you know we publish a weekly prayer guide with daily scripture readings? You can download a copy on the homepage of our website, or click the link on the back page of the Sunday Scoop (don’t get the Scoop? Contact Tricia at email@example.com)
Sunday Morning Livestream: We livestream both of our Sunday services every week (barring technical difficulties). You can view it live on Sunday Streams right here, but it is summer after all, and that means sleeping in! If you miss a morning service, or are in an area that doesn’t allow you to connect to the Internet, you can check out anything you’ve missed in the archives right here.
Sunday Worship: Coming together for fellowship together in worship is an important part of spiritual life. We never take a Sunday off over the summer! Join us every week at 9 a.m. for contemporary worship and 11:10 for traditional worship EXCEPT Summer Celebration Sunday on July 9th, when we will worship together at the Pioneer Pavilion at Lady Bird Johnson Park at 10:30 a.m.
Library & Resource Room: Our Library, located as you walk into the Adult Sunday School Wing, and our Resource Room, located in the first door to the left if you go down the right hallway, are both available for you to check out materials. There are books, bible studies, prayer guides, videos, etc. If you have any questions about the library or resource room, contact the office at 997-7679.

Stay Connected to your Home Church Socially This Summer:
Unplugging for a little while can be very refreshing! But if you want to stay connected to home while you’re on vacation this summer, technology makes it easy. Check out these suggestions to keep in touch while you’re away and help you stay connected throughout the year:
Away from home:
-PRAYER! Praying together is one of the most powerful things we can do as God’s church. Praying for each other and with each other brings us into deeper relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are blessed by this wonderful body of believers to strengthen us and build us up in God’s word.
Lord, thank you for the gift of community. Thank you for the resources we have available to us to connect with our brothers and sisters in Christ wherever we are. We pray for your church, here at Fredericksburg UMC and throughout the world. Thank you for the gift of laughter and encouragement. Help us to speak kindly and lovingly to one another, bearing each other’s burdens with patience and understanding. Amen.
Facebook: Did you know that we regularly post pictures and updates on our Facebook page? You can RSVP to event invites, comment on posts and pictures, and see who else is engaged with us online! You can see our page at www.facebook.com/Fredericksburg-United-Methodist-Church-217593975003835
Email Updates: The best way to stay informed about all the mission and ministry going on this summer and throughout the year is to make sure you’re on our communication director Tricia Small’s email list. If you want to get email updates, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
Special Events: Our fifth annual Summer Celebration Sunday is July 9th! Join us out at Ladybird Park for worship at 10:30 a.m. followed by a free hamburger lunch. Our third annual Back to Church Sunday is coming up in September! There will be food and fun and surely lots of laughter.
Connect in Ministry: One of the best ways to create relationships is to serve together! We have many ministry opportunities all year long. Not sure where you fit? Contact the office and we’ll help you match your interests and availability to ministry opportunities. We will hopefully be hosting a ministry fair later this Fall, which gives you an opportunity to talk directly to the people involved in each ministry who can tell you about their passion and excitement!
