Come Join Us for Kid’s Music Academy After-School Music Fun This Year on… THURSDAYS!!

For the past nine years KMA has been offering quality musical training to the children of the Fredericksburg Community! KMA teaches our children three ways, through reading music or music theory, through learning how to sing together in a group, and through learning to play an instrument.  We will have three age/experience levels for our elementary students this year beginning with our Kindergarten and 1st graders. Then the 2nd and 3rd graders will be the next group with the 4th and 5th graders in the older level.  What began as a small children’s music group has grown into a large 60+ student program involving Fredericksburg area students in a total music education experience in singing, instrumental training and music theory.

Great instrumental opportunities which wouldn’t otherwise be available are part of KMA’s main goals.  Instrumental education is offered at no charge through our hand chime and recorder classes, but other opportunities are available at a reasonable cost for violin, guitar and band instrument classes.  Violin training has been part of KMA curriculum for the past 5 years, but beginning last year it is offered in cooperation through the Hill Country Youth Orchestra program in Kerrville, which has actually added KMA as its first satellite program!

KMA gives students access to a terrific computer music training software called Music Maestro which guides children through 48 lessons from 1st grade through 5th grade along with fun computer games and a composing page where students can actually write their own compositions and hear them played back to them!

The KMA Choir travels every year to a fun contest location where they sing, then adjudicated and receive an award for their work.  For the last three years the choir has received a superior ‘1’ trophy at the Pride of Texas Music Festival at Sea World.  We will find another location this year to travel to and work toward a 4th trophy!

Donna Vaughan will again this year be our choral instructor and plans are being made to include a musical production in the spring semester.  A huge part of the children’s music education includes performance. In our case, we have a venue that allows us not only to sing in front of friends and family, but also to be involved in singing in worship. All of our KMA kids will have a chance to perform in front of our friends and family for our Christmas and Spring concerts along with several Sunday morning worship opportunities here at Fredericksburg Methodist Church.

CONTINUED STRING CLASSES OFFERED THIS YEAR!!

We will begin a new group of string students this year.  If you’re interested in starting your child on violin, be sure to read the important information on string classes.  Even though the regular KMA classes are free, there is a cost for the string class, but there is also scholarship money available to help!

We also have a continuing string class for those that began last year to help them achieve more in their abilities and get them ready to move into the Hill County Youth Orchestra program in Kerrville.  Fredericksburg public school doesn’t yet have a string program, but students can continue all the way to college entrance with HCYO!

Other band instrument lessons and classes are offered to older students 5th grade and up on an individual schedule with one private lesson and one class lesson each week.  Contact Don Doss if interested.

A Word to Home Schooling Parents…
We understand the parent’s desire to find quality music instruction while also giving more ‘social’ opportunities of the home schooled student.  Even though we will have many students that are also receiving music education from the public classroom, KMA has geared all of our classes and curriculum to make sure students receive a thorough training in music by the time they finish the 5th grade year.

Please pass the word to other home school families that music training is available for free - and it’s also FUN!  See you on September 8th!!!
